Job Description:
McLean/MGB Post-Baccalaureate Clinical Fellowship | 2027–2029
Position type: Paid, full-time employment and clinical trainingDuration: Two yearsStart date: June 7, 2027Location: Massachusetts; worksite varies by clinical placementApplication period: December 18, 2026–January 11, 2027
Build your clinical experience while preparing for a career in mental health.
The McLean/MGB Post-Baccalaureate Clinical Fellowship offers recent college graduates two years of direct patient care experience, structured training, and mentorship. Fellows work full time as members of multidisciplinary treatment teams while exploring their professional interests and preparing for graduate study.
Since its launch in 2019, the fellowship has brought together graduates with varied backgrounds and career goals in a community grounded in kindness and curiosity. Fellows gain experience supporting patients, learning from experienced clinicians, and navigating the responsibilities of working in mental health care.
What you’ll do
Fellows work in direct care roles within participating child, adolescent, or adult programs. Clinical settings include inpatient, residential, partial hospital, and community-based acute treatment programs. Responsibilities vary by placement and may include:
Supporting patients in daily routines, therapeutic activities, and the use of coping skills.
Leading or co-facilitating therapeutic groups following program training.
Observing and communicating changes in patients’ behavior, engagement, and safety.
Helping patients manage distress and participating in crisis response within your training and role.
Collaborating with nurses, psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and other treatment team members.
Completing clinical documentation and contributing observations that inform patient care.
This is a hands-on clinical position with meaningful responsibility. Fellows work with patients who may be experiencing significant distress and learn to respond with compassion, sound judgment, and appropriate professional boundaries.
Training and professional development
The fellowship includes an initial orientation and clinical skills training, followed by program-specific training at your placement. Fellows also participate in ongoing educational seminars, supervision, and mentorship.
Topics include therapeutic approaches, crisis management, ethics and boundaries, diagnosis, family work, and professional development. Fellows receive guidance on graduate school preparation and opportunities to learn alongside a cohort of peers. Research and program evaluation opportunities vary by placement.
