AES World Languages and Cultures Institute [AWLCI] is seeking in-person and/or remote ESOL Teaching and Curriculum Development Interns for Spring 2027 to work with our various language programs. AWLCI offers both free English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes for individuals living in the Boston area, medical Spanish courses for medical professionals that want to better communicate with Spanish-speaking patients, and general Spanish courses for adult professionals and community members who want to better connect with clients and their broader community. We are seeking interns for both programs. Interns will have the choice to work with any of these programs, or multiple, depending on their interests and Spanish. The intern would receive support and training throughout the internship, and work under experienced language instructors and nonprofit program administrators. This is an ideal position for individuals interested in a career in education, language teaching, or nonprofit program development.

The ESOL Teaching and Curriculum Development Intern would be responsible for both helping to develop activities and materials for the course, and for working with students one-on-one and in small group settings to complement the material taught by the lead instructor for the course. The intern will gain significant experience in working directly with students by providing regular practice conversations to students, and in curriculum development and teaching techniques.

This intern position runs for 10-15 weeks from January-May 2027 and requires a minimum commitment of 10 hours per week. This is an unpaid internship, but AWLCI happily provides support in administrative and facilitative capacities to students who seek to use this internship for college credit or apply for grant/scholarship funding.

This position requires candidates to have the following qualifications:

  • Commit to 10-20 hours per week for the duration of the internship
  • Has completed at least 1 semester of college
  • English fluency (and Spanish proficiency if seeking medical Spanish internship)
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • A positive, supportive, professional demeanor
  • A proactive, caring, positive, and energetic personality

The ideal candidate would also possess the following qualifications:

  • Experience in tutoring or teaching
  • Demonstrated interest in working with vulnerable immigrant populations
  • Bilingual - English and Spanish
  • Bilingual - English and Haitian Creole
