Job Description:
Community Engagement & Partnerships Program and Evaluation Undergraduate Intern – Spring 2027
Department of Community Engagement & Partnerships
The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston Community Engagement and Partnerships (CEP) Department is responsible for ensuring that the Museum is a welcoming and inclusive place for all visitors. The idea of welcoming focuses on audiences who historically have not engaged with the museum (onsite or virtually), the collection, or do not think the institution is a place of gathering. Our goal is to ensure we have sustained and consistent ongoing relationships with our surrounding communities that connect with all departments and facets of activities within the MFA. The Department offers internships to college students who enjoy working on large-scale public events, family programs, program evaluation, and have an interest in learning more about community engagement in a museum setting.
The CEP Program and Evaluation intern will play a crucial role within the Community Engagement department, supporting the development of new family programs, drop-in artmaking activities and assisting with event logistics for the Museum’s cultural celebrations and open house days. The intern will also contribute to audience research for Community Engagement, including helping to finalize and implement program evaluations for new and existing programs, events and access programs. Working as part of a team and talking with others about their experiences are vital parts of the internship. This opportunity will allow the intern to make connections within the MFA, and with people and organizations in the greater Boston area.
The intern will report to the Senior Director of Community Engagement and Partnerships and work closely with the Linde Family Director of Community Arts, as well as with other members of the CEP Department. The intern will collaborate on shared projects, as well as work on projects independently. They will gain valuable professional skills including program logistics and planning, audience research methods, and communication with a variety of audiences: museum colleagues, partner organizations, and the public. The intern will also gain experience in data analysis and reporting.
Ideal candidates must be able to work onsite 20 hours per week between 9 am-5pm between January 22-May 7, 2027. Sundays, Wednesdays, and Fridays are required. Remaining hours are flexible according to the intern's schedule. Interns are also required to attend at the undergraduate Museum Pathways & Practices professional development course from 12:30-2:30pm on the following Fridays: Jan 29, Feb 5, Feb 12, Feb 19, Feb 26, Apr 2, Apr 9, Apr 16, Apr 23, Apr 30, and May 7.
The intern will be paid at a rate of $16.80 per hour and will receive a $90 per month transportation subsidy which is subject to tax withholdings.
As we amplify our efforts toward becoming a truly inclusive institution and fostering the next generation of museum staff, the MFA actively encourages students from all backgrounds to apply to the program.
