Air Force Pharmacist at U.S. Air Force & Space Force Health Professions & Officer Recruiting - 318th Recruiting Squadron
Air Force pharmacists engage in the full spectrum of pharmaceutical services, most importantly ensuring prescriptions are filled and dispensed to our beneficiaries accurately and safely. They will run pharmacies ranging from two or three technicians in a small clinic to a 90 person staff in a large hospital. Air Force pharmacists do everything from dispensing over the counter drugs or preparing cytotoxic agents to providing clinical pharmacist services. They also provide in-service training and vital information to physicians, nurses and ancillary staff on monitoring drug therapy as well as how to prepare and administer medications safely. As a member of the patient-centered care teams, pharmacists provide support through medication therapy management and targeted chronic disease management. Air Force pharmacists direct the operation of the intravenous admixture program and implement the unit dose drug distribution system. In addition to providing drug information to patients and supervising the filling, labeling and dispensing of drug orders, they direct the procurement, storage, manufacture, distribution, control and evaluation of drugs. Air Force pharmacists also inspect stock supplies to maintain antidotes and other emergency care drugs. In emergency or wartime conditions, they will be actively involved in selecting, distributing and monitoring drug therapy and may be asked to meet challenges such as compounding sterile products.
