Job Description:
Center for Netherlandish Art Events Graduate Intern – Spring through Summer 2027
Center for Netherlandish Art
The Center for Netherlandish Art (CNA) is an innovative research center for the study and appreciation of Dutch and Flemish art. Through an expansive library, a residency fellowship program, and an active slate of academic and public programs, the CNA shares Dutch and Flemish art with wide audiences in Boston and beyond; stimulates multidisciplinary research and object-based learning; nurtures future generations of scholars and curators in the field; and expands public appreciation of Netherlandish art—especially works from the 17th century.
The CNA is seeking a graduate intern to assist with scholarly programs and public facing events, among other administrative tasks. These activities include but are not limited to supporting the annual CNA Colloquium, the 2027 Summer Institute for Netherlandish Art, and the Historians of Netherlandish Art Conference in Boston. The internship will provide training in project management, interdepartmental collaboration, internal operating systems such as JIRA, and communication with multiple audiences and stakeholders. Successful candidates should be professional, detail-oriented, experienced in administrative tasks, with a demonstrated interest in museum work and the field of Netherlandish Art.
The CNA Events Graduate Intern will be mentored by the CNA Coordinator and CNA Senior Program Manager and will regularly work with the Van Otterloo-Weatherbie Director. The selected intern can expect to work independently and collaboratively, join regular meetings, participate in behind-the-scenes visits, and engage in learning opportunities alongside CNA fellows as these activities suit their interests. Given that major events such as the Summer Institute and HNA Conference occur in the summer of 2027, the department requires an intern who can continue their work over the spring and summer semesters. Individual scheduling conflicts can be accommodated and will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
Ideal candidates must be able to commit to work onsite 18-20 hours weekly, mostly between 9am-5pm Tuesday-Friday between January 22 – August 20, 2027, including undergraduate attendance at the undergraduate Museum Pathways & Practices professional development course from 12:30-2:30pm on the following Fridays: Jan 29, Feb 5, Feb 12, Feb 19, Feb 26, Apr 2, Apr 9, Apr 16, Apr 23, Apr 30, and May 7. (Graduate interns are required to attend the following professional development sessions during the semester: Orientation on Jan 22, Meet the Leadership Team (date to be announced at orientation), and Final Presentations on May 7. They are welcome to attend any other sessions that appeal to them.)
The intern will be paid at a rate of $19.95 per hour and will receive a $90 per month transportation subsidy.
* This graduate internship is eligible for paid time off including sick, vacation, and holiday time.
As we amplify our efforts toward becoming a truly inclusive institution and fostering the next generation of museum staff, the MFA actively encourages students from all backgrounds to apply to the program.
Essential Functions:
Work directly with multiple colleagues in the CNA to ensure substantial first-hand experience in museum work.
Closely monitor project calendars to ensure that programs stay on track with scheduled checkpoints.
Support event production and place internal requests for catering, facilities, A/V, and other needs.
Draft written invitations, programs, and info packets for participants of CNA events.
Serve as a public-facing representative for the CNA’s mission during events, assist attendees with wayfinding, and respond to problems if/when they arise.
Assist the department in developing the CNA’s web presence and digital resources.
Support library functions and assist visitors. Respond to public inquiries as assigned.
*Prepare and offer a 3-minute final synoptic presentation of the internship as part of the Museum Pathways & Practices professional development course.

Enrolled in a graduate program in Art History, Museum Studies, Arts and Cultural Administration or related areas of study concurrent with the internship period.
Strong curiosity and interest in Netherlandish Art.
Demonstrated interest or experience in museum work.
Previous office experience or related work, including proficiency in Microsoft Office/Teams and Google suite.
Excellent organizational and communication skills, both in a team and independently.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects at the same time.
Ability to work onsite 18-20 hours per week, from Tuesday through Friday, 9am-5pm parameters, between January 22- August 20, 2027, including undergraduate attendance at the undergraduate Museum Pathways & Practices professional development course from 12:30-2:30pm on the following Fridays: Jan 29, Feb 5, Feb 12, Feb 19, Feb 26, Apr 2, Apr 9, Apr 16, Apr 23, Apr 30, and May 7.
